Termite Inspection & Control in Carson, CA
More than three-quarters of Carson's homes were built before 1980, about a third of them in the 1960s alone, according to Census estimates. On houses that age, state rules tell the inspector to report conditions that invite termites and wood rot: wood touching soil, cellulose debris, faulty grading, excess moisture, roof-leak evidence and poor ventilation. UC IPM says the western drywood termite is commonly found along the Pacific coastal region. 22 licensed companies in our directory list Carson as a service area for termite control. Termites in this area
Drywood or subterranean?
Drywood termites live in dry wood above ground, often in attics, eaves and furniture. UC IPM calls their six-sided fecal pellets diagnostic; they are pushed out of kickout holes less than 2 mm wide. Subterranean termites need soil contact. Mud tubes on a foundation or wall are a common sign. Contact a licensed company for an inspection. When they swarm
Drywood swarmers fly during the day in summer and fall. Subterranean termites in the Reticulitermes group swarm in the afternoon in spring or fall, on clear days after soaking rain. UC IPM: Drywood Termites; UC IPM: Subterranean and Other Termites.

Tenting or heat in a 1960s Carson house
Carson's median home was built in 1966, and in a house that age the treatment choice decides how long you're out and what the next report will mention. UC IPM compares the options:
- Fumigation: the home is tented and you leave for several days.
- Heat: you leave for hours, not days, but large beams and "heat sinks," such as wood resting on concrete or tile, are hard to heat.
- Is it still active? UC IPM suggests cleaning up pellets around a kickout hole and checking a few days later for new ones, since vibration alone can shake some loose.
- Old tags: a new report must mention any other company's inspection or completion tags under two years old.Sources: U.S. Census Bureau: ACS 2020–2024 housing tables, UC IPM, Drywood Termites, Structural Pest Control Board, Structural Pest Control Act (PDF)

Sources: Structural Pest Control Board, Online ServicesWhy are there winged termites around my lights?
Termites swarm to start new colonies. Drywood swarmers fly in daylight in summer and fall, and subterranean swarmers appear on spring or fall afternoons after rain. UC IPM adds that the larger dampwood termites are attracted to lights at dark. A swarm isn't proof the house is infested, so book an inspection.

For drywood termites, yes. UC IPM says heat treatment means leaving home for hours rather than the several days fumigation takes. Its drawbacks: the core of large beams is hard to heat, and so are "heat sinks" such as wood on concrete or tile.

Besides live termites and damage, the report must list conditions likely to lead to infestation or infection, such as earth-wood contact, excessive cellulose debris, faulty grade levels, excessive moisture, evidence of roof leaks and insufficient ventilation.

It's a contract for regular inspections over time. It must state how often inspections happen, the renewal fee, how long it lasts, and whether repairs are included. It must also say that covered infestations will be corrected within six months of discovery, unless both sides agree otherwise in writing. A full inspection is required at least every three years.

Not under state law alone. If the lender or the contract makes one a condition, the seller has to give the buyer the report before title transfers.
